October 15, 2026
Shrewsbury Borough's autumn calendar puts the Borough 5K on October 18 and Trunk or Treat on October 23. The Grove's Fall Fest follows the next day, October 24, so three community events land within seven days. The busiest of them, Fall Fest, now reaches across Route 35. That's where the shopping center's new restaurant, its new fitness studio, and the bakery hosting the festival's pie contest all sit.
First, a geography note, because it explains whose calendar this is. The Shrewsbury Township website describes the Township as Crawford, Barker and Belshaw streets. It sends questions about Broad Street, Sycamore Avenue and The Grove to Shrewsbury Borough. Everything below happens in the Borough.
The Shrewsbury Historical Society's Autumn Harvest Party on Buttonwood Drive is this afternoon, following the borough yard sale on October 3. RSVPs for the party closed on October 3. The week that matters for most households starts a week from today:
Families with young children can trick-or-treat twice in about 19 hours: at Borough Hall on Friday evening, then at The Grove on Saturday afternoon.
The official Fall Fest flyer lists a Halloween parade at 12:15 p.m., meeting at the frog fountain by The Studio. It also lists trick-or-treating, face painting, food, and the Shrewsbury Fire Department. The event listing adds live music, and the fire department will be grilling. Neither source names which stores are handing out candy.
The flyer also lists a Holiday Pie Bake-Off at The Baker's Grove at Grove West. That puts one of the festival's main attractions on the opposite side of Route 35 from the parade's starting point. Grove West is the extension of the center across the highway. It's also where most of The Grove's 2026 changes have happened.
In May, NJ.com reported three new tenants for The Grove. Two of them, Solidcore and Numa Modern Mediterranean Kitchen & Bar, were headed for Grove West. Only the third, Kendra Scott, was going into the main center.
Numa took over the former Albarino space. The Grove said goodbye to Albarino on its own news page and promised "a vibrant, new restaurant experience" in its place. In March, Patch reported the restaurant's address as 508 Broad Street and noted that, in a video on the restaurant's Instagram page, Numa's operators talked about plans for a cocktail menu with eight to 12 options. Before opening, chefs Jiten Singh and Jack Cunningham told the Asbury Park Press that the menu, not yet released then, would feature Southern French, Sicilian and Mediterranean cuisines.
Numa's own site now says "NOW OPEN" and links to reservations. Its menu page has separate Dinner, Day Menu, Bar Bites and Cocktail Menu sections. The restaurant has a bar and patio seating as well as the dining room, according to NJ.com. The Grove's directory marks it for outdoor dining.
Solidcore is at 540B Broad Street. NJ.com described its classes as 50-minute, high-intensity, low-impact resistance training sessions with small class sizes.
With both in place, Grove West has a full row. Here's the current tenant list from The Grove's directory. Numa's address comes from Patch, and the rest of the unit numbers come from Federal Realty's property listing:
In practice, an afternoon at Grove West now covers a lot. You can take a workout class, stop at a bakery and a stationer, shop a few stores, and stay for dinner on a patio. On October 24, the pie bake-off adds a reason to make the trip across the highway.
The main Grove hasn't stood still. Kendra Scott's store locator lists its shop at 597 Broad Street, Suite 603, with regular hours posted. NJ.com's May report named Lululemon, Alo, Bloomies, Banana Republic, Williams Sonoma and Lovesac among the existing tenants, along with the seasonal café d'jeet. The d'jeet restaurant at 637 Broad Street posts hours seven days a week. Its site doesn't give fall dates for the seasonal café, so check before planning around it.
Farther along Broad Street, Brooklyn Square Pizza opened at 1026 Broad Street on February 2, in the former Federico's space. NJ.com covered the opening as the pizzeria's fifth location. For a family with trick-or-treaters on Friday night, it's a short drive from Borough Hall.
All this commercial change on Route 35 comes during a quieter year at Shrewsbury's oldest intersection. The Monmouth County Historical Association lists the Allen House, at 400 Sycamore Avenue, as the northwest corner of the Historic Four Corners. The other corners are Christ Church, the Presbyterian Church, the Quaker Meeting House and the Shrewsbury Historical Museum.
The Allen House is closed for renovations and is due to reopen in 2027, according to the Monmouth County Historical Association. Until then, visitors can tour the outside. The association's restoration page labels the project 2025 to 2027. It lists repairs, accessibility improvements, restrooms, electrical and HVAC work, and upgrades to visitor pathways. That makes this fall a good time for a walk past the Four Corners to see the outside of the building before the restored version reopens.
The Borough calendar slows down once Fall Fest is over. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, and the Annual Borough Menorah Lighting follows on Wednesday, November 4. The Christmas Tree Lighting is at Borough Hall on Saturday, November 28, at 3:00 p.m. That leaves five weeks between the end of Fall Fest and the tree lighting. Those weeks are a good stretch to try Numa's dinner menu, book a Solidcore class, or walk past the Allen House while the restoration is underway.
